The Laserjet 2400 series appears to not have a maintenance count. I say appears because, at the time of this writing, we only had a Laserjet 2420 for testing. The service manual indicates there is a maintenance count but this seems incorrect--at least for the 2420, and we suspect for the 2400, 2410, and 2430.
In short, our advice is that you don't need to worry about resetting the maintenance count in the laserjet 24x0 series printers. The service menu doesn't store a maintenance count or maintenance interval, and when you print a configuration page neither is listed. However, HP has left in a menu option for a new maintenance kit. If it makes you feel better, you can follow the procedure below and select New Maintenance Kit, although it doesn't seem to do anything.
If you need to record the page count at which you installed the maintenance kit you will need to record it somewhere else. Our experience has been that most 24x0 series printers need maintenance between 80,000 and 120,000 pages, maybe less if users jab sharp pointy objects in the printer to clear paper jams.
Reset the maintenance count on an HP LaserJet 2400
1. Turn the printer on; as it begins the memory count, press and hold the checkmark button (Select).
2. Continue holding the checkmark button until all the LED service lights are illuminated, and then release the checkmark button.
3. The display will read "SELECT LANGUAGE"; use the UP/DOWN arrows to find the words "NEW MAINTENANCE KIT" and then press the checkmark.
